JoAnn Shakon was born in New York, raised in Oregon where she graduated from the University of Oregon, and then moved to Chicago where she spent most of her adult life.

JoAnn’s career in finance was marked by setting new standards.  She was the first woman, and the youngest partner of the largest specialist firm on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, and one of first female traders on the Chicago Board Option Exchange,  Working in this demanding environment, where your word really is your bond, JoAnn was known for her professionalism, integrity and high ethical standards.  She traded for 15 years until she took a break to raise her daughter and son.

Looking for a new challenge, JoAnn furthered her education at College of DuPage and then established and built a successful horticultural business, which she ran until 2015 when she was drawn to realize her dream of coastal living.  Leaving the winters behind, she moved to Sarasota.

A definite “people person”, JoAnn has put those skills to work in her real estate business.  Combined with her love of numbers, fast thinking, and negotiating skills, learned in the early years of her career, she brings the perfect balance of caring, experience, knowledge and skills to any real estate transaction.  She is also a Certified Intrinsic Feng Shui Professional and a member of the International Feng Shui Guild.

One of College of DuPage’s core values is Serving Our Region, Connecting Our World, and JoAnn personifies this.  She is an active member of Rotary International, and when she’s not busy fundraising she finds time to enjoy all our community has to offer: walks on the beach, art, culture and fine wines and food.  JoAnn lives in Lakewood Ranch with her Portuguese water dog, Beauregard.
